Our Mission

The Faculty with Disabilities at Yale Interest Group was established to support and advocate for faculty members at Yale University who identify as having a disability, as well as their allies. This group works to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by disabled faculty and to promote an academic and professional environment that is fully inclusive and accessible. Through engagement with school leadership and the disability community, the group collaborates in efforts to reduce barriers, inform institutional policy, and ensure equity for faculty members with disabilities across all aspects of academic life.

Issues that our group has identified as critically important to faculty with disabilities include:

  • Accessibility in faculty spaces, research facilities, and clinical environments
  • Equitable access to opportunities for promotion and career advancement
  • Recruitment and retention of faculty with disabilities
  • Adequate and timely provision of accommodations
  • Fostering a culture that reduces stigma and affirms disability as an integral part of academia
